Catena Bible App

Catena Bible App

(Update: After looking further into the app, I noticed it only has the King James Version and English Standard Version. So there are obvious books missing, nonetheless, it’s still a good resource. Perhaps they will add NAB or Douay Rheims in an upcoming update)

I typically don’t like using my phone to read the Bible, however, if you are like me, there are little pockets of time throughout the day where you can quickly grab your phone and read a verse or two. It is a great way to stay in conversation with God throughout the day.

Catena is a new app I just discovered that has a leg up on other Bible apps. As you are reading specific verses in scripture, you can double tap a verse and it will pull up what early church fathers’ commentary and/or homilies. It gives you new insights on a verse you may have read 1,000 times.

IMG_2513Catena (from Latin meaning “a chain”) presents insights on the scripture by early Christian theologians whose faith is the basis of all Christians.  The app contains homilies of the early church fathers whose teachings have enlightened our minds and hearts throughout the centuries. Commentaries from the first Christians’ perspective speaks to the deeper experience in the roots of the authentic faith.

Catena Bible App provides background information on the historical, literary, and theological dimensions of the Scripture.

Plus, and this is the great part, it’s a free download for both Apple and Android!
